Methodology & professional history

Therapeutic Advertising®

Therapeutic Advertising® describes a way of developing mental-health storytelling and educational communication with care for the people, communities, and professional contexts represented.

It connects advocacy, media psychology, Film/Video-Based Therapy® education, and creative project development. It is a professional and educational methodology—not psychotherapy.

Mental-health storytelling

Stories about mental health can make experience more visible, invite learning, and support communication across communities. A responsible approach distinguishes storytelling and advocacy from diagnosis, treatment, or promises of clinical outcomes.

Relationship to Film/Video-Based Therapy® education

Therapeutic Advertising® can support education about Film/Video-Based Therapy® by helping clarify how film and video may be used within appropriately guided therapeutic and educational contexts. Education about a practice is not the same as providing that practice.

A professional history

The methodology sits within Dr. Cohen's history of filmmaking, editing, media psychology, live events, advocacy, teaching, and emerging technology. It has been part of work with organizations and projects including the National Kidney Foundation, The Meadows, LaughMD, MBS Academy, and Interfaith The Musical as documented.

Boundaries and next steps

Therapeutic Advertising®, advocacy, education, and coaching are distinct from psychotherapy. No clinical-outcome claim is made here. When a project involves clinical concerns, work with an appropriately licensed professional in the relevant role.
